Speaker Profile at Product Sellers Seminar: Amy Knapp

September 8, 2008

We have rounded out the product sellers seminar schedule with Amy Knapp, owner of Family Organizer talking on Friday about organizing home and family on Friday at 4pmET. She will be talking to the product sellers about believing in your product and believe in your customer. No matter what product you sell, that product is a vehicle for a relationship that will be the basis for your business.

Before starting Calendar Systems USA in 1999, Amy owned a Specialty Advertising Company for 6 years. Her client listed included Ford Motor Company, General Motors and Haworth Furniture Company, when she decided to sell that company to stay at home and care for her child with disabilities she thought she was prepared. What she was not prepared for was how difficult it was to manage her time and resources with so little structure!

After search for a planner with no success, Amy created a system using a spiral bound notebook, sharpie and ruler. Realizing that there was a market for what she had created, Amy set about to learn the publishing industry – the sales and marketing side was like old home for her.

Today the Family Organizer is sold at retailers nationwide. Amy has been a contributor to most of the major women’s magazines, and was recently selected by Redbook as their Design Your Life recipient. The Family Organizer also received Parenting Magazine’s Mom Tested seal.

The mission statement for The Family Organizer is to provide quality products that contribute to a better quality of life for busy families at a price point that does not stress their family budget. To provide customer service that honors and respects Moms as the hardworking, intelligent and resourceful women they are.

Speaker Profile: Gabrielle DeSantis & Monica Hillman

September 1, 2008

Gabrielle DeSantis & Monica Hillman, co-owners of Gigi Hill Bags will be speaking about Product Development and Research on Wednesday, September 17th at 2pmCT.

Mission Statement for Gigi Hill Bags:
Wow! Gigi Hill is one of the most exciting and challenging ventures I have undertaken. At Gigi Hill we design and sell handbags, tote-bags, travel bags, cosmetic bags and more. Our passion is ensuring that our products fulfill our company promise. Our promise? To give our customers a lifestyle piece that delivers exactly how they intend it to. And we are happy to report that our customers consistently tell us that they love the Gigi Hill bags they purchase.
Soccer moms Monica Hillman and Gabrielle DeSantis-Cummings, passing the time on the sidelines at their kids’ games, had been brainstorming ideas for a business they could run from home.

The conversation turned to Hillman’s tote and their frustration over finding a decent bag that could handle a busy mother’s needs.

They wanted function. They wanted fashion. And they didn’t want to mortgage the house to pay for the perfect combo.

“We kept looking at this bag and saying, ‘There has to be a better way,’ ” says Hillman, 42.

They were convinced that women would snap up a better bag, one that could haul soccer snacks in style as easily as beach towels, diapers or work files.

After a year of tinkering with samples, they launched Gigi Hill in mid-2006 from Hillman’s Yorba Linda living room with $5,000 in savings and $23,000 in loans and investments from friends and family.
